ABOUT THDC
The THDC Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) is one of the most significant upcoming coal-based power projects in Uttar Pradesh, being developed by THDC India Limited (THDCIL). The project is located in Village Dushahara, Tehsil Khurja, District Bulandshahr, a region strategically chosen to cater to the growing electricity needs of the state and nearby areas. With a planned installed capacity of 1320 MW (2 x 660 MW units), the project will play a crucial role in strengthening the power supply network of North India.
The Khurja project is based on supercritical technology, which ensures higher efficiency, lower coal consumption, and reduced emissions compared to conventional subcritical plants. It will source its fuel from the Amelia Coal Mine in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh, allocated specifically to THDCIL for this purpose. By utilizing domestic coal, the project also contributes to India’s vision of energy self-reliance.
Apart from addressing the rising power demand in Uttar Pradesh, the project brings multiple benefits. During its construction and operation, it generates significant employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers, boosting the local economy. It also supports the development of surrounding infrastructure, including roads, utilities, and community facilities, thereby enhancing regional growth
